INTRODUCTION

I remember my first year in the University; we had a picnic at the beach. Tracy-the-classy (as we call her) arrived soon after it all started in her elegant, flamboyant and exorbitant ball gown indeed she was classic. But rather than cheering her as usual the class busted into a wild laughter. But this was the same gown Tracy wore to our fresher’s night and I really admired her, honestly she looked awesome that night. But here and now, on these beach, in that dress, she looks odd and out of place. Can I say, Tracy-classy was looking declassified.
OK…ok…ok, I think the issue here is that dressing is not all about how it looks on someone but maybe more of time, place and other factors. There is an English adage: “how you dress is how you will be addressed” And this is really true, it is not difficult to tell the difference between Ebuka and Mr Ibu (Lol). A friend of mine said there is a difference between a cook and a chef….ha ha. But come to think of it “how you dress” does not mean how expensive or pauperish your dress is, rather how appropriate your dress for a particular occasion/event is. That means there are different dress codes for various occasions. In fact, we can say that there are as many dress codes as there are occasions. Don’t get me wrong here! While cooperate dresses, for instance, may go for all cooperate events, sometimes what really makes the difference is not the dress itself but the “dress sense and skillful combination of accessories, complements, charisma and other qualities that makes you a ‘head-turner’. An expensive dress could be messed up by a poor dress sense, while a very simple and inexpensive dress could be a boom with good dress sense. As Lagbaja puts it: “Dress with sense".
